Jesus Calms the Wind and Waves

Matt 8:23-27

Scripture:

23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

Story:

Because Jesus is God’s Son, He can things no one else can.  Because He loves us, He takes care of us.  He wants us to learn to trust Him and have faith.  (Faith means that in your heart and in your head, you trust that He loves you and will take care of you.)

Jesus’ special friends, the Disciples, had a lesson in faith one day.  They were on a boat with Jesus on a lake.  Suddenly, the wind started to blow very hard.  And the waves became so high that they came up onto the boat.  The Disciples were very afraid, they looked at Jesus Who was sleeping through the storm.  Jesus wasn’t afraid at all.  His disciples could not believe what they saw.  He was asleep!  Asleep!

The Disciples woke up Jesus because they were afraid.  They told Him they were going to drown.  Jesus wanted them to trust Him that He would take care of them.  He asked why they were afraid.  He told them their faith was too little.  Then He said, “Quiet!” and “Be still!”  to the wind and waves.  Guess what?  The wind and waves listened to Jesus and the storm stopped. He is used His very great power and took care of the Disciples.

Jesus wants us to have faith that He is with us and He will take care of us.  It’s easy to be afraid, but remember that He will take care of you, just like He did the Disciples.
