Jesus Blesses the Children

Mark 10:13 – 16

Scripture:

13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.

Lesson:

Have you ever made a mistake?  That means that you did something that wasn’t the right thing to do.  Maybe you dropped something and it broke.  Oh, no!  Maybe you used mean words when you were mad.  We all make mistakes.

In today’s Bible story, Jesus’ special friends, called His Disciples, made a mistake.  Oh, no!  But it was alright because Jesus fixed their mistake.

Some moms and dads heard that Jesus was coming to their town.  They wanted to take their children to see Jesus so He could give them a blessing.  What is a blessing?  A blessing is words that place God’s love upon you.

The moms and dads had heard that Jesus was special.  Because He is God’s Son, He can do what no one else could do.  He could touch people who were sick and make them better.  He could tell the wind and the waves to be still, and they would listen to Him.  They were probably excited that their boys and girls would get to meet Jesus.  As they walked along, they might have been talking and laughing.  Maybe the boys and girls were walking and skipping.  That was when the Disciples made a mistake. They told the moms and dads and the children to stop! They said that the children could not see Jesus.  Oh, no!

Maybe the disciples thought Jesus was too tired or too busy to see the children.  But Jesus is never too tired or busy for any us.  He told the disciples, “Let the little children come to me.” He said that God’s home, heaven, is for children.  And that grown-ups should trust God like children. Then Jesus hugged the children and gave them His blessing.

Jesus’ Disciples made a mistake.  He was not too tired or too busy for the children who came to Him.  He will never be too tired or too busy for you, either.  You can talk to Him any time.  It doesn’t matter where you are, because He’s always with you. He loves you so much that He will always listen.
